How to Make Money from Blogs

Blogs have become a popular tool for both businesses and individuals to share their voice, thoughts and musings to the world. Here are steps on how to start a blog and earn money from your blogging.

Webopedia defines a blog as “a web page that serves as a publicly accessible personal journal for an individual. Typically updated daily, blogs often reflect the personality of the author.”

Blogs have become a popular tool for both businesses and individuals to share their voice, thoughts and musings to the world. Some blogs are created to give a more “humane” face to a business, allow interaction with customers, even as a tool to generate traffic. Others write blogs to share their passions and attract like-minded individuals.

Whatever the reason for creating a blog, the next question is: What can you do to make money from your blog?

Here are steps to starting a blog and earning money from your writings:

1. Set up your blog. You can have the option of using their URL (e.g. http://widgetsblog.blogger.com) or use the blog software in your own domain name (http://www.widgetsblog.com). Some of these are free, while some has monthly/annual subscription

Here are some places that will allow you to create your own blog

However, if you are thinking of using your blog to earn money, you need to check first with the blog platform whether they allow ads to be put on the blogs. Some blog platforms have strict policies and will delete your blog if you put ads on them. Blogger.com, being owned by Google

which also runs the contextual advertising program Adsense, is one of the ads-friendly blog platforms around.

2. Create great content. Everything starts with content. With great content, you can attract more traffic and more engaged visitors, which gives you higher likelihood of monetizing your blog.

Why will they want to read your blog? Why will they want to spend their time in your blog? Provide value, useful information and other benefits to the readers. Your blog can contain up-to-the-minute news and analysis; or it could be a witty and amusing look at pop culture. Give a reason why visitors will frequent your blog.

3. Get traffic to your blog.

You can't earn from your blog if the blog does not have traffic. Many make the mistake of believing that once they create a blog, people will immediately flock to it. There are millions out there so why would they visit your blog?

Getting traffic is going to be your biggest challenge. Here is a comprehensive list of places where you can list your blogs and syndicate its content - Resources for Marketing Your Blogs and RSS Feeds

One useful technique for getting traffic to your blog is to use carnivals. Carnivals are a technique for showcasing your blog. Carnivals occur once a week to once a month, and you need to submit your blog post to the carnival moderator. Find blog carnivals that fit your topic at BlogCarnival.com http://blogcarnival.com/bc/

4. Think of how to monetize your blog. One of the most common ways of earning money from blogs is through advertising and donations. Here are some ways you can earn money from your blog:

Contextual advertising programs

  • Google Adsense = Adsense is one of the easiest to join and best way to make money from blogs, and Google’s ownership of Blogger.com makes it easy to start earning from blogs
  • Yahoo Publisher Network = in addition to their contextual advertising program, also offers RSS advertising
  • Chitika eMinimalls = contextual advertising that pays per click and focuses on product-based advertisers
  • WidgetBucks = pay-per-click shopping widgets

    Blog-specific ad networks

  • Federated Media Publishing = ad networking that represents high traffic and most influential blogs offering mostly through CPM and flat rate advertising

  • Blogads.com = ad network for influential blogs
  • CrispAds = offers keyword targeted text ads (not contextual)
  • AdGridwork = an advertising network offering text ads; as well as a traffic exchange network

    RSS Advertising

    • Feedburner = text link ads in RSS feeds are offered by CPM basis
    • Moreover’s Feed Direct = advertising program which inserts contextual ads in the RSS feeds (in partnership with Kanoodle)
    • Pheedo = RSS ads are both CPM and CPC basis, and appear at the end of each post
    • BidVertiser Ads For Feed = the contextual ad agency now offers an advertising program for RSS feeds
    • Feedvertising = run text link ads in RSS feeds via flat rate pricing (not CPM or CPC)
    • OrangeFeed

      Other sources of income

      • Text link ads - you can sell for fixed price for a fixed period of time
      • Donations (yes, you can beg)
      • Affiliate programs such as Commission Junction http://www.cj.com and the Amazon Associates program.

Steps To Home Business Success

Fifty million home-based businesses will be in operation by 1997, according to Link Resource's National Work-at Home Survey. All around the country, people who want more control over their lives are starting home businesses

In New Orleans, Rick Hart's home based cajun Cargo ships seafood nation wide. In Palatine, Illinois, Stephaine Heavey works from home designing and selling original patterns for fabric dolls. And in Dallas, Lisa McElya published the Dallas Party & Event Planners Guidebook from the entire first floor of her two-story home.

These three people are living the new American dream of owning a business, but avoiding the high overhead and start-up costs of a commercial location. If the idea of working from home is appealing, but you don't know where to begin, here is a step-by-step guide.

STEP 1#DECIDE WHAT PART OF THE HOUSE TO USE

Select an area away from family activity. The perfect space is a separate room (or perhaps the garage), but any area will do, if it can hold all the business supplies and equipment, and also provide enough work space for desks, tables, or counters.

STEP #2 DETERMINE HOW MUCH TIME YOU CAN SPEND ON THE BUSINESS

Many people start a home business on a part-time basis while raising children or working outside the home. Others start full-time when family and finances allow. However you begin, figure out how may hours per week you can devote to the business Make a weekly chart of your activities, examine it, and determine where the business fits. Don't assume you have time and find out later you don't.

STEP #3 DECIDE ON THE TYPE OF BUSINESS

Make a list of things you like to do, your work and volunteer experience, and items you own that can be used in a business. Look over this line-up, and using ideas from it, list possible businesses to start. Eliminate any business that isn't appealing or doesn't fill a need people have.

For ideas on different types of businesses, consult the end of this article. Other ideas can be found in the source material listed at the end of this article.

STEP #4 CHOOSE A LEGAL FORM

The three basic legal forms are sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation. The most common is the sole proprietorship. As its name implies, a sole proprietorship is owned by one individual. It is the oldest form of business, the easiest to start, and the least complicated to dissolve. Here are some of the advantages of this business form:

1. You own all the profits 2. Your business is easy and cheap to organize. You don't need any government approval, although you may be required to carry a city, state or county license. Your only other obligation is to notify the Internal revenue Service (IRS) for the purposes of sales tax. 3. You're the boss 4. You enjoy certain tax savings. You must pay regular individual taxes on your income, property, and payroll, but these are not levied as special taxes, as with a corporation. You will also have to pay sales tax which you have received from your customers. 5. Greater personal incentive and satisfaction. Since you have your investment to lose if your business is not successful, you should be more willing to put time, thought, and energy into the business. And when your business is successful, you enjoy maximum sense of accomplishment since you know its success was dependent upon your decisions about your management ability alone.

For more information about this and other forms of business, send for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Publication MP25. Selecting the Legal Structure for Your BUsiness (50 cents). It outlines the advantages and disadvantages of each legal type of structure. If after reading it you are still uncertain what form of the business should take, consult an attorney.

STEP #5 DETERMINE WHERE THE MONEY WILL COME FROM

There are three ways to finance start-up costs: use your own money, obtain a loan, or find investors. If possible, it is better to start small, use your savings, and not worry about repaying a debt. also keep in mind that since you are a home-based, chances of qualifying for a loan or finding investors are slim until the success of your idea is proven.

STEP #6 GATHER INFORMATION Spend a few weeks researching home-based businesses. A library or bookstore can provide numerous books on business basics, and on the specific type of business that interest you. Homemade Money by Barbara Brabee (see sources) is an excellent book to start with.

If you are considering a computer business, get in touch with the association of Electronics; Cottagers, P.O. Box 1738, Davis, CA 95617-1738. To keep informed of what is happening in home business world, contact National Home Business report, P.O. Box 2137, Naperville, IL 60566, for subscription information; and Mothers Home Business Network, P.O. Box 423, East Meadow, NY 11554 (send SASE for free information).

STEP #7 CHECK ON ZONING RESTRICTIONS

Find out how your property is zoned, the call City Hall and ask what regulations apply to home businesses in that zone. Also, if you rent or live in a condominium, check the lease or homeowner's association rules to be certain a home business is allowed.

Generally, if you do not annoy your neighbors with excess noise, odors, and traffic, you will not be deterred from running a business at home. The neighbors may not even be aware of the business, but it is necessary to know exactly what you can and can't do before you start. This is important should any problems or questions arise later.

STEP #8 PICK A BUSINESS NAME AND REGISTER IT

If the business you choose is different form your name, file an assumed (or fictitious) name certificate with the county. You are notified if another business already has that name, so you can select a new one.

Do this before investing in expensive stationery and brochures. It costs only a few dollars to file, and it protects the business name from being used by someone else in the county.

STEP #9 WRITE A BUSINESS PLAN

A good business plan clarifies your ideas and establishes a plan of action. A good business plan should include a description of what you are selling, your background and qualifications, who the prospective customers are and where they can be found, what is needed to build the business, how you plan to promote, and how much money is need for start-up costs.

SBA Publication #M925, The Business Plan for Home-Based Business ($1) is helpful.

STEP #10 GET AN IDENTIFYING NUMBER

If you are the sole proprietor of the business and have no employees, you may either use your Social Security number or an Employee Identification Number (EIN) as the business number on official forms. If you have employees, or the business is set up as a partnership or corporation, you must obtain an EIN. To do this, complete IRS Form SS-4 (Application for Employer Identification Number) and file it with the nearest IRS Center.

STEP #11 OBTAIN A SALES TAX PERMIT

If the product or service you sell is taxable, you need a state sales tax permit. Call the local tax agency, explain the type of business you have and what you sell, and ask if you need to collect sales tax. If you do, they will send you the necessary information and forms to complete. You also use this tax number when your purchase items for resale.

STEP #12 OBTAIN LICENSES & PERMITS

It's very important not to overlook any necessary license or permit. For example, some cities and counties require a general business license, and most have special laws regarding the preparation and sale of food.

Call City Hall to find out what is need for your particular business. In addition, Chamber of Commerce provide information on city, county and state licenses and permits.

STEP #13 SELECT BUSINESS CARDS, STATIONERY, BROCHURES

Spend time on the color, design and paper for these items. They make a definite impression-good or bad- on the people who receive them. If you are not certain what is most suitable and effective, consult a graphics designer or a creative printer whose work you like.

STEP #14 OPEN A BUSINESS CHECKING ACCOUNT

Call several banks to find out what services they offer, and what minimum balance, if any, must be maintained to avoid paying a service charge. Also ask about credit card if you plan to offer this convenience to your customers. Bank fees can be significant, so shop around for the best deal.

If your personal checking account is with a credit union, see if it can also provide a separate business account. when you open your account, you may need to show the assumed name certificate and business license.

Finally, investigate obtaining a credit card in the business's name. If this is not possible, set aside a personal credit card to use for business expenses.

STEP #15 SET UP RECORD-KEEPING SYSTEMS

Put together a simple and effective bookkeeping system with an 8 1/2 x 11" three-ring binder, columnar pad sheets and twelve pocket dividers from the office supply store. For each month, set up columnar sheets for income and expenses. Use a pocket divider for each month's receipts, bank statement, deposit tickets, and canceled checks.

In addition, an automobile log for business mileage, and filing system for correspondence, invoices, supplier catalogs, client records, etc. are two other useful tools.

For more information on record-keeping, see IRS publication #583, Information for Business taxpayers.

STEP #16 CHECK IRS REQUIREMENTS

If you comply with basic IRS guidelines, you can deduct a percentage of normal household expenses (mortgage, interest, taxes, insurance, utilities, repairs, etc.) as a business expense. see the box accompanying this article and, for more detailed information, IRS publication #587, Business Use of the Home.

Also become familiar with these IRS forms: Schedule SE (compensation of Social Security Self-Employment Tax) and Schedule 1040 ES (estimated Tax for Individuals). Depending on circumstances, you may have to file them.

STEP #17 OUTFIT THE BUSINESS

Make a list of everything needed to start the business, but before you buy anything, look around the house for things you already own that are usable.

When you are ready to start purchasing, check the classified ads and garage sales. Both are good, inexpensive sources for office furniture, typewriters, computers, answering machines, etc. But only what is absolutely necessary for start-up, and wait until the business is off the ground to get the extras.

STEP #18 DECIDE ON TELEPHONE REQUIREMENTS

Call the telephone company to find out the cost of a business phone in your area. If you cannot afford a separate business line, investigate the telephone company's regulations on using your personal phone in a business. It may be possible to do this if you follow certain guidelines. Keep a record of long distance business calls as they are a deductible expense. Finally, consider the benefits of an answering machine to catch calls when you are out.

STEP #19 CHECK OUT THE POST OFFICE & UPS

Using a post office box as the business address down plays the fact you are home-based. It also prevents customers from dropping in at all hours.

While looking into box rental, ask for information on the various postal rates, particularly bulk rate, if you plan to do large or specialized mailings. If you mail many packages, check out United Parcel Service (UPS), as it is less expensive than the Post Office.

STEP #20 PURCHASE THE NECESSARY INSURANCE

Check with your homeowners insurance agent about a rider for your existing policy or the need for a separate business policy. Also make sure you have adequate personal and product liability coverage. Shop around, as each company has different rules regarding home businesses

To save money on medical insurance, join an association and participate in their group plan. One such body is The National association for the Self-Employed: they can be reached at 800-527-5504.

STEP #21 ORGANIZE THE HOUSE & YOURSELF

To have more time for business, organize and simplify household routines. Start by holding a garage sale to get rid of unnecessary possessions. Next, have a family conference and divide household duties, making sure each person does his or her part. The, set up a planning notebook to keep track of appointments, things to do, calls to make, errands to run, shopping, etc. Finally, set up a work schedule so you won't get sidetracked by TV, neighbor's visits, snacking, and telephone calls.

Creating and operating a home business is a wonderful and rewarding challenge. The satisfaction is not only in the money earned, but in doing what makes you happy.

Promoting Products Using Google Adwords

There are many business opportunities out there that tell you how you can make money by advertising digital goods. You can either sell your own products or sell products written by others. ClickBank lets you sell ebooks and software written by hundreds of authors. You typically earn a commission of between 30% and 75% on the products you resell. the trick to making money selling other people’s products is in getting the public to know that you exist. Remember, you are competing with the hundreds of other individuals who also want to sell the same item. Even worse, you are often competing against the author directly.

One of the fastest ways to promote a product online is to use Google Adwords. Basically, you pay a fee each time someone clicks on your ad when they do a search on your keywords. The more you pay per bid, the higher your ranking is. There are other factors that come into play with Adwords placement, including the quality of your landing page and how fast or slow your landing page loads.

The trick is to determine the most you can bid and still be profitable. In order to do this, you need to know how many visits it takes, on average, before someone makes a purchase. This is your click-to-buy ratio (CBR). If you find that you get one order for every 100 clicks to the page, your CBR is 100. Next, lets look at your cost per click, or CPC. Assume that you are paying Google (or Yahoo, for that matter), 50 cents per click. Thus, in order to get one sale, you will spend $50 per 100 clicks. Since your CBR is 100, you will spend $50 to get a sale. If you are selling your product for $49, and only keeping half, you are basically losing $25 per sale.

How to Fix This

In order to get your CBR down, you need to look at a few things. These include the quality of your landing page, the nature of your ad, your click-thru rate (CTR) and your desired search position. Let’s start with your ad. Make sure it is focused on your desired market, and that it does not get people to click who are not interested in buying the product. In Hot Home Based Jobs, I cover this topic in detail, so I won’t re-do it here (hint buy Hot Home Based Jobs!) You also want to make sure that you are using keywords that are targeted and not too specific. For example, if you are selling my Find and Assign product (available through ClickBank), you don’t want to be bidding on the term “real estate”. Why? Because you don’t want your ad displayed to people looking to buy a home, or who are not otherwise interested in finding ugly properties and assigning the contracts (the content of the book). You only want your ad displayed to those who are seeking for what you are selling. This will keep your CTR higher, and thus lower your overall CPC (based on Google’s algorithms). A lower CPC translates to a lower cost per sale.

The quality of your landing page is also important. If people click on the ad, come to the page and either don’t find what they are looking for, or the page is too confusing, they will leave without ordering, and thus your CBR will go up. Have several people look at your web page, and determine if it convincing or not, and if the message is on target.

Remember, if you are using pay per click, you need to create your own landing page, and not simply link to your affiliate page. Google will penalize you for this, and in fact, will often only allow ONE affiliate for a given site to have their ad appear in the paid search results. Thus, you need your own domain and your own marketing web page to successfully market digital goods through an affiliate program such as ClickBank.

Wordpress Adsense System

If you're struggling desperately to make money online while your boss isn't watching, this will solve your 5 biggest problems...

Discover The Magic Formula To Create “Auto-Pilot”
Niche Websites Using Wordpress & Make Your First
Adsense Dollar in The Next 7 Days - Guaranteed!

Blogging expert reveals how to create beautiful niche websites, add high quality content and magically attract thousands of free visitors from Search Engines with very little effort - all with a free software called Wordpress...

Don’t bother reading any further unless you find yourself asking these questions before you sleep at night:
    1. How do I create Adsense websites easily without any programming
      and designing skills?
    2. Where can I find new content for my websites without having to write everything myself?
    3. How do I get a LOT of traffic to my websites without spending money
      on advertising?
    4. Why is it taking me so long to make a decent income from Google
Adsense when others seems to do it so easily?
    5. How can I possibly manage everything when I'm just part time?

Top 5 Questions About Wordpress Adsense Blogging

When I mentioned Wordpress and Adsense, most people were skeptical. In fact, here are the Top 5 most interesting questions I got from my survey:

Q1: Is It Too Late To Make Money From Adsense?

Absolutely not. Until six months ago I never made more than a dollar with Adsense. Today my income has increased by 300% and continues to grow significantly every month.

But that only happened when I corrected a major, major mistake.
What was my mistake? I was trying to build a website, design a template, write all the content, and do all the marketing the old and hard way using HTML editors and so-called “page generation software”.

It just didn’t work for me...

There was WAY too much new information to study and WAY too many mistakes to learn from. It was a slow and agonizing process that just made me more pissed off every day.

That’s when I discovered blogging and Wordpress.

With Wordpress, I can set-up a beautiful website with the push of a button, quickly add content and start getting traffic with very little effort.

Then I discovered that I could also automate everything, set it aside for a couple of months and still continue to make money from it. I can make my website grow every single day without worrying about...

  • where to get content
  • how to build incoming links
  • how to manage thousands of page

This discovery completely changed my life.

Q2: What Is “Wordpress” And Why Should I Care?

Wordpress is a free blogging platform that anyone can use. A “blog” is an online journal, and is proven to be the most effective way of building a website from scratch with no experience.

But don’t let the words ‘journal’ fool you.

It’s not just a ‘diary’ to record your personal experience and daily ramblings.

With a Wordpress blog, you can build an entire website on a particular topic and dominate the entire industry. The gurus call this an ‘authority’ website.

I call it good news.

Now the average joe like me actually has a chance to build a mega-site with hundreds of pages and thousands of visitors a day...

..and yet still have time for myself and my family.

The reason I’m yakking on about Wordpress is because hundreds of smart entrepreneurs are already using it and I don't want you to be left out!

Look at it this way...

By the time you create your first page they have already created an entire profit-pulling niche website and are making much more than you do now, while spending only a fraction of the time and money you’ve invested.

The good news is that you can catch up too, if you start taking action now.

Q3: I Want A Website, Not a Stupid Blog!

This question was obviously asked by someone who’s really pissed off with all the “make money on the Internet” hype. I’m sorry for the language he used but I can feel the frustration he’s feeling.

Can't you?

Even as a full-time Internet marketer I sometimes find it impossible to cope with everything. What more if you’re trying to do it part time in the office, or at home before your kids get back?

The answer is simple: Wake up and smell the roses! The Adsense game has changed. It's a numbers game now, and in this game you're simply not going to win if all you have is a website that looks like it was made by a 6-year old kid.

I know some people don't like blogs, but there's a solution for that. With Wordpress, all I need to do is install a free tool, and my butt-ugly blog is transfomed into an attention-grabbing, powerful niche website...

What? Is that even possible?

Yes it is. In fact, your visitors will not even know that they are looking at a blog.

And I will guide you step-by-step on how to do this until you’re satisfied. You will look at your “blog” and think “Damn... I have a freaking beautiful website”

You will look back at how you used to build websites thinking “If only I discovered this earlier”…

"What makes blogging such an attractive option for people who want to make money from Adsense is that you can be up and running in minutes......and Google loves blogs.

The company loves the fact that the pages change frequently. They love the fact that a good blog builds a loyal fan base. And they love the fact that most blogs focus on one particular topic.

All of that means good search engine rankings, well contextualized ads and pleanty of good revenue that can start flowing in within just days of launch."

Q4: Isn’t It Just Easier To Use Blogger or Blogspot?

Easier? Maybe.Better? Definitely not.

Yes, it’s easy to set-up a blog with Blogspot.com and get your own Bloggger account. You can be done in 10 minutes flat. Blogger also has built-in functions to add Adsense codes directly into their platform.

In fact I started with Blogger and I won’t say that it’s bad. But after a while I started to get frustrated with Blogger, and here’s why:

  1. Google Owns Your Content – Google has the authority to shut down your account without warning if they don’t like what you’re blogging about. You have no control over your own blog. With Wordpress, you own the domain name and the blog is hosted on your own account. You have full control over your content.
  2. Lack of advanced options – Blogger doesn’t allow categories. You can’t sort your articles into different focuses. With Wordpress, not only can you add categories, you can also add as many plugins as you want easily and even add audio or video to your content.
  3. Publishing with Blogger is a pain in the ass – It can take forever to post articles on the Blogger platform, especially if you’re making changes to the entire website.
  4. You can't brand yourself – Of course with Blogger you can publish to your own domain, but you can’t do significant changes to it. I can identify Blogger sites immediately, but with Wordpress you can customize and brand almost anything you want. You can also install Wordpress on an existing website as a sub-domain or sub-directory if you want.
  5. Limited promotion options – When you post in Blogger, you can only “ping” a limited amount of sites, whereas with Wordpress on your own domain you can ping as many blog directories as you want, and start getting more traffic.

In fact, there are other platforms like MSN Spaces, Typepad, and even MySpace. But these solutions are severely limited.

When you start using Wordpress to build your Adsense websites, you’ll soon discover what I mean. It’s something you need to experience for yourself.

I can tell you one thing though – when you go Wordpress, you don’t go back.

Q5: I hate writing, so how do I build ADSENSE sites?

Good! You don’t need to be a writer to create a website with Wordpress. In fact it may even be better if you can’t write a proper sentence in English.

When you’re using Wordpress, you can:

  1. Get others to write your content for free or for a small fee.
  2. Secure great original content for cheap, use them with your name on it, and become an instant expert.
  3. Download articles automatically from article sites and post them to your Wordpress blog.
  4. Use other people’s content legally and ethically, and they will even thank you for it.
  5. Automate page creation so that you don’t need to post every day, and yet your content is published regularly, for years if you want.

Affiliate Programs - Commission Junction

Commission Junction is another affiliate program mega store (like clickbank) that offers thousands of products from different industries for you to get commissions from.

In a sense CJ is a middleman between you the affiliate and companies who have products to sell.

I’ve used Commission Junction for a year or so now and have never really had much success with it - partly because I’ve not found many products in it that quite fit with the topics that I write on and partly because I have found other programs (like Amazon) to be easier to add to my blogs.

In fact I’ve used Commission Junction so little in the past few months that today when I logged onto it I found that my account has been deactivated (I’ve since reactivated it).

Once you’ve applied to join Commission Junction you then need to apply to join some of the many programs that run within it. Each advertisers in the system has their own program and if you wish to promote their products you apply to do so. Once your application is approved you are then able to use links provided to promote their products.

I understand why they use this system but it can make getting products up onto your blog to promote a longer process (and more frustrating if you’re rejected) than other systems like Amazon and Clickbank in which you are free to promote any product or service in their system. For example I’ve just now applied to become an affiliate of the Commission Junction program but was rejected for no reason.

As you can tell I’m not a major fan of CJ but I include it in this series because I know of website owners who use it very effectively and make good money from it.

Pros of Commission Junction

• wide variety of products/services/companies to promote
• better quality products than clickbank (no cheap and nasty e-books here). In fact they represent some very big companies.
• options given for different types of links (including text, buttons, banners etc)
• reasonable statistics information given

Cons of Commission Junction

• perhaps a downside of the variety of products on offer is the overwhelming nature of CJ
• slightly more complicated interface than a program like Amazon
• they deactivated my account!
• application to programs within the larger Commission Junction network can be frustrating and a long proces.

Affiliate Programs - Clickbank

Clickbank is another affiliate program that I know quite a few bloggers use. I’ve used it myself to promote a small selection of products with moderate success.

The product I’ve seen the most success with is Joel Comm’s What Google Never Told You About Making Money with Adsense (affiliate link) which I reviewed here. I think I had some good results with this product because I’d personally read and used it and gave an honest appraisal with it for my readers. Personal recommendations are important with all affiliate sales - but especially with Clickbank as some of their products have a pretty average reputation.

Many of Clickbank’s products are e-books and software products - which are broken down into the categories of Business to Business, Computing & Internet, Fun & Entertainment, Health & Fitness, Money & Employment, Sports & Recreation, Home & Family, Marketing & Ads, Society & Culture.

As I note below - while the money can be good with Clickbank - you might pay for it with the ‘cheap and nasty’ feel that many of it’s products have. I would strongly recommend that you carefully consider which products you link to and suggest that you (or someone you trust) has personal experience of them before recommending them to readers.

Clickbank Pros

• it is pretty easy to use Clickbank. Once registered you just need to insert your affiliate name into a URL to be activated for the product

• commissions are very good. Some pay out up to 70% of the value of the product. I’ve made commissions of up to $50 on some sales and know of people who make quite good money from them.

Clickbank Cons

• many of Clickbank’s products are quite quite cheap (although expensive) and nasty. You get a lot of get rich quick programs, dodgy e-books etc. There are some quality products in the mix - but they don’t have the best reputation among many people.

• the Clickbank affiliate interface is pretty basic. In comparison to the stats you get from programs like Amazon and Adsense it’s not very helpful.

• there are no inbuilt options for creating links automatically as there are with many other affiliate programs. I’ve heard of a variety of clickbank tools that can help with this but if you just use their provided interface all you can really create is text links.

What experience have you had with Clickbank? Would/do you use it? Which products have you had success with? What works best in your Clickbank strategy?

Using Your Blog to Promote Your Affiliate Programs

Creating a blog is a great way to popularize your affiliate programs because you can achieve greater results for the affiliate program you are working with. When blogging, consider the type of people who may be surfing your blog; find out if they are looking for any specific products or related accessories and find out what it is that may inspire them to make a purchase. Using these points, start a blog that generates interest in your affiliate program. This in turn helps you to make even more money through your affiliate programs.

When mentioning your affiliates within your blog try to give genuine recommendations of your products and services. Blog readers or bloggers will come back if you gain their trust and respect through your own honesty. Don't give glowing reviews of your products expecting more sales. If you provide sincere reviews, you are sure to get more orders than with fabricated reviews. This is because everyone wants to know what exactly it is that they are buying, before buying it!

It is always better to use contextual deep links. There is no point in just placing some banner ads, thinking that upon seeing this banner ad, surfers will visit the site. Contextual ads prove to be beneficial only if you advertise products that are related to the blog that you write. Place links of services or products that are relevant to the content found. It is with this tactic that your blog on affiliate programs will become profitable.

When placing links of products or services of affiliate programs, make sure that the links are placed on the hotspots of pages. The hotspots of a page may be the top of the left hand side bar or at the end of your comments. Basically, the parts of a page that are most likely to be read by a surfer. Never clutter all of your affiliate programs within a single blog.

Don't use too many affiliate program links within one blog, as with this, you stand to run the risk of reducing the effectiveness of your links. With this reduction of the effectiveness of your links, you only disillusion the readership of your blog. Be as transparent as possible about your affiliate programs. Don't attempt to trap readers into clicking on links hoping that they will buy your product or use your service.

Labeling your affiliate links is not that feasible an idea for your blog. However, you will have to somehow make people know what link they are clicking on by putting a note under or beside your affiliate links. This note is just to inform what the link is; and not to force them to click on the link to make a purchase for you. However, sometimes the name of the product or service is sufficient to inform the blogger on the product or service you offer.

Finally, consider combining your affiliate programs with other revenue sources on your blog. The best means of finding out the effectiveness of affiliate programs on your blog would be by using some tracking package to track which links are most effective. Find out which links sell more products, and which do not.

Keeping a track of the best positions for your affiliate program links, the products that sell the most and which wording works well with your links all help in improving your affiliate program blogging strategy.

Affiliate Marketing - How to Use Blogs to Become a Clickbank Super Affiliate!

Just getting started using Clickbank and don't know where to start?

Here is how you can create a blog to promote your affiliate link:

1. Sign up at Blogger or Wordpress. If you are just getting started in the blogging game, then Blogger is a great user-friendly choice.

2. Choose a name for your blog. You'd want to have highly searched keywords in your blog name. Go to AdWords' External Keyword Tool. It will give you the search count per month for your keyword. Anything above 10,000 searches a month is a potentially profitable proposition.

3. Create content in the form of articles and make a few posts once your blog is created. This gives the search engines fresh content to 'chew' on. Important: Make sure your posts are keyword rich. Target specific keywords with your posts with the aim of getting high rankings in the search engines for those keywords.

4. Ping your blog using Pingomatic.com. This will send an alert to the search engines and various blogging directories that your blog has been updated and will give you a fresh stream of traffic.

5. Use SocialMarker.com to bookmark each and every one of your posts to a variety of the most popular social bookmarking sites. This will increase your backlink count (good for search engine optimization) and also give you more direct traffic.

Now that you know the specific steps to get started sending free traffic to your affiliate link, I suggest you take action now to make things happen and bring in the money!

Earn Maximum Income From Your Blog Using Google Adsense

After you set up a blog with decent traffic(sometimes even before starting the blog), the first thing which crosses your mind is, which are the best pay per click programs which provide you the income you desire.Though there are many PPC programs, many are still to prove their credibility.Big blog publishers in their blogs, recommend certain PPC programs which may only benefit them(by getting them some referral income). I never see any ofthose much hyped blog publishers help anyone out other than themselves.Though most of their posts are informative, they always put in some crap there, which will be absolutely at their best interests not ours. Best PPC campaigns are the most earning, hassle free and good customer care.

Google Adsense review

Google Adsense best in the field of PPC advertising. The first one I tried as a blogger.Though I liked to publish on the web,I didn’t know how to earn from it. It was accidentally that I stepped on Google Adsense for Publishers.I registered with a blogspot domain and was approved within 1 week.I personally favour Adsense as the best PPC program because

1.Most suitable for a beginner.

Google Adsense allows almost all websites with non offensive content, even those just started today with a few posts.

2. Payment by check

Most of the beginners, especially non -US , won’t be having a pay pal or online transfer account(I didn’t have one when I started).Payment by check suites blog publishers who are new, provided they have a bank account.

3.Best earnings from every single click.

As a beginner, you will not be having much traffic, so you would want best payments for each click you recieve.Google has the best earnings per click.
4. Excellent reporting.

Most other PPC programs have a problem, their reporting is not good, you may have to wait hours or even one day before you see the results.Google Adsense provides you the best reporting system, with every click accounted.

5.Any number of websites allowed.

You can publish Adsense Ad’s in any blog/website which meets Adsense’s program policy. This is a good deal
because most other PPC programs allows only one website first and to publish into another Website/blog you need their approval. You will have to wait another week to get their approval for that!.

5.Everything in single basket.

Using Adsense, you can earn in more than one way. These different methods suites every publisher in the world.Earnings using these methods also lies in the top range.

  • Text and image ads
  • Link ads
  • Google websearch/ Site content search.
  • Referrals.
  • Adsense for mobile content.
  • Adsense for feeds ( Feedburner lets you place Adsense ad’s in your feeds too!)

I received my first check in a few months, and ever since I have been earning with Adsense. For a part time blogger, Adsense is the best
PPC program available.

Some tips for beginners to get Started.

1. When you are signing up for Google Adsense.

a. Use a blogspot/blogger domain when you register for the Adsense account.

Since blogger is a blogging program sponsored by google, they will allow almost any publisher registering with a blogger domain, provided
they have a few posts.

b. Wait two weeks after blog launch before applying for Adsense.

After you start a blog, don’t just jump and apply for an Adsense account. Wait a few days,a eek or two before applying.Because your chances
of being approved are more if you have been publishing for some time.

c. Have minimum fifteen posts.

You should have minimum fifteen posts(ideally) before applying for adsense and these posts should not be copy pasted from another website.
Your content must be unique( For atleast the first fifteen posts).Posts should have minimum 500 words, ideally. You can post an introduction for yourelf and the blog,
your intersts, and anything of that sort for a first few posts. After the first few posts, write about the subject you are dealing with(technology, download tips, health etc.)

d.Don’t Place any other Advertisements on your blog before being approved by Adsense

Placing other advertisements on you blog Google unhappy and your account maynot be approved. So make sure your blog remains clean while Adsense searches your blog for content. After being approved,
you can place other advertisement’s which are approved by google.

e. Don’t sign upm for adsense from a public computer.

Adsense will record the IP address of the Computer from which you are signing up for Adsense. If your blog become popular, there is a possibility that some other user using the same computer may click on the Adsense ad’s displayed
on your blog. Google counts this as an invalid clicks. If invalid clicks continue to occur, Adsense will just delete your account without further notice.

2. While running Adsense program.

  • Use the same computer( Same IP) to log into Adsense account every time.
  • Don’t indulge in clicking your own Ad’s
  • Don’t tell your friends about your Adsense account.

They may try to help you by clicking, and several clicks per day from same IP may cause suspiction, and youraccount may be removed.A little earning is better than no earnings. So try to be honest with this commitment as far as possible.

  • Place Ad’s where people will click on them.
  • Place only 3 Ad’s per page.
  • Don’t place the Ad’s together.
  • Try this combination

2 google text/image ads+1 Link ad+1 refrral per page. Place these away from each other and blend with your page.

3.After you gain some experience.

a. Try other Ad’s which blend with google Ad’s . Google doesn’t provide Intext Ad’s( Links within your content). Try some program which integrates well with google
like Contera,text link Ad’s.

b. Try Placing Affiliate links.

c. Try Pay per post programs.

Now you have read one of those posts which have been in my mind for long, and I hope this will be a good tutorial for all those who are
looking forward to earn more from your website.
